Aesthetically Pleasing Powder Coating for High Performance Fasteners
Often, applications require colored fixings to match the color of their housings – for example in commercial vehicles or outdoor furniture. If matching is not required, colored fixings can be used to give the work an eye-catching finish.
There is a range of regular colours, but bespoke colours, as well as color matches, are also available - so if there is a deviation from the green you are looking for, the powder coat may look the same.
Painting fasteners is a popular process available in various material variations for a more pleasing aesthetic.
Powder Coating Process
The process uses finely ground pigment and resin particles. The particle size of a pigment is critical in determining many characteristics of the color you apply, and can affect many things, including:
Opacity
color
tone
Tinting power
Gloss
durability
viscosity
These pigment and resin particles are sprayed onto the fastener by the electrostatic spraying process; it involves the method of applying the coating to the metal surface through the law of attraction between positively and negatively charged particles. This process permanently bonds these charged particles to the metal surface of any fastener, whether it is a nut, bolt or screw.
Once bonded, the powder is heated and melted, then smoothed into a coating and placed in a curing oven – which fuses the powder to the metal and reduces the risk of chipping, damage, discolouration or fatigue. The finish is sturdy.
powder coating color
A variety of colors are available as powder coatings, usually classified as RAL colours. The original RAL color set was limited to 40 colours. There are now over 2000 shades - but only the 200 or so commonly used in the UK for powder coatings in the 'RAL Classic' group.
Custom colors are available - but you may find that the product you are looking for has a RAL number.
