What is Threaded Rod?

In short, threaded rod is a metal rod that is screwed from one end to the other, hence the nickname "Fully Threaded." Other names include threaded rod and stud; they are all the same thing.

Available in a variety of types, lengths, and materials, threaded rod is one of the most versatile materials joining products. They are commonly used to join wood and metal objects, but can also be inserted into wood or concrete for added stability. They can also be used in plumbing applications.

Common Uses for Threaded Rod
Threaded rod is a widely used product that is used in many industries, including electrical, agricultural, and construction.

They are ideal for industries where corrosive environments are present; they are common in plant maintenance and other high-humidity areas.

Lines can also be found in lengths where a clean, aesthetically pleasing appearance is required, such as in plumbing and contractor areas.

We offer other types of threaded rod. They are used in the medical, maintenance, and mechanical industries due to their corrosion resistance. Threaded Rod Types: Threaded rods typically come with right-hand threads (turn clockwise to tighten).

Threaded Rod for Construction
Left-hand threaded rods can also be used in situations where vibrations may cause right-hand threads to loosen. We can also supply threaded rod with threads on one end only or with left/right threads on the other end to suit specific applications.

We also offer different thread styles, including ACME (or trapezoidal) threads, which have a 29° angle and offer high load capacity.

Threaded rod material types.
Threaded rod is available in a variety of materials, including steel in various grades (4.8, 5.8, 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9), as well as A2 stainless steel and A4 stainless steel.

Stainless steel threaded rod
Titanium and aluminum alloy threaded rods are also popular, while nylon is becoming increasingly popular as a strong, lightweight, corrosion-resistant and affordable option.

We can also supply threaded rod in a variety of special materials, many of which are available from stock.

How to cut threaded rod to length.
Threaded rod is typically supplied in 1 meter lengths, with some also available from stock in 2 and 3 meter lengths. If longer lengths are required, custom lengths can be made.

Rods can be cut to specific lengths using either an abrasive saw or a cold cut saw. A cold cut saw will cut much faster than an abrasive saw, which will leave a rough edge.

If using an abrasive wheel, the next step is to remove the rough edge left by cutting the rod. This is usually done using a grinding wheel to smooth the cut end. The necessary beveling or chamfering is then done, which helps make it easier to attach the nut to the rod.
